ENLIGHTENED ENTRY
A glass door and
transom window bring
light into the entry,
opposite, top left,
where Shaiza and kids
Nicholas, Anna Sarah,
and Kira get ready to
head out with dog
Bayou. Two built-in
cabinets take the place
of traditional closets.
NATURAL FIT
Set in the Beaverkill
Valley, the lo-year-old
house,
opposite, bottom
left,
has a simple exterior
that blends with old
homes in the area. It’s
part of the Beaverkill
Mountain Club, a
community of
conservation-minded
homeowners. Jon is the
club’s president.
LIGHT BRIGHT
Creamy white walls keep
the breakfast room,
opposite, right,
airy but
not stark. Bluestone
flooring, rather than the
wood used in adjoining
rooms, makes the light-
filled room seem like an
outdoor space.
ROUNDED OUT
An oval island,
above,
paneled to match the
cabinetry, does more
than break up the classic
white kitchen. ‘The
shape is great because
there’s no countertop
corners for the kids to
bump into,” Jon says.
